Our Red, White and Blue Salute Hundreds of signers joined in WXBQ's Red, White and Blue Salute to the Troops!
As part of the Rabbit's Red, White and Blue Salute to the American Troops, WXBQ arranged for listeners to be able to send a personal salute to those serving in the United States military overseas. On Wednesday, September 11, 2002, 96.9 WXBQ and its sister stations of Bristol Broadcasting Company were at Wal Mart stores in Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol with huge red, white, and blue patriotic banners for listeners to sign. Listeners stopped by the Wal Mart stores and wrote their messages of support and thanks for the troops on the banners. Altogether the hundreds of signatures and messages filled six huge banners. The banners were then shipped to Afghanistan where they were put on display at one of the U. S. Military compounds to show the troops the support they have from the folks here in the Tri-Cities area. Our special thanks to our local hero Christopher Tickle, serving with the 339th Combat Support Group, who received and posted the banners for us in Afghanistan. Tickle told us, "I have them hanging throughout the hospital and plan to put some in the dining facility. All of the soldiers here at the 339th Combat Support Hospital in Bagram, Afghanistan, appreciate the support you and the people of the Tri-cities have shown." Special thanks also to Tickle's wife Jane who gave us much assistance in the shipment of the banners. |
