 Radiothon Volunteers Answering The Phones
to radiothons. These stars include Randy Owen, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, The Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Lonestar, Clint Black, Ricochet and more. Randy Owen, lead singer of the group ALABAMA, helped start the Country Cares for St. Jude Kids program in 1989. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee, was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. The hospital is an internationally recognized biomedical research center dedicated to finding cures for catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital treats over 4,000 children each year for life-threatening disease. The hospital’s work is supported through funds raised by contributions and events like the Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon. All St. Jude patients are treated regardless of their ability to pay. St. Jude covers all costs for families who have no insurance.
In addition to the on-air radiothon, funds were also raised in our on-line auction. You also help when you visited a local Burger King and purchased a boot in the "Buy a Boot" campaign. The Burger King store in Bristol, Piney Flats, Abingdon and Weber City participated.
To all who helped - the volunteers who answered the phones, the ones who gave pledges or contributions, those who bought boots, and everyone who lent their support - we say "Thank you!" Because of each of you this very important fund-raising event - The WXBQ Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon - was a big success.
