When Bill was a very young school boy his Sunday School teacher offered him a part time job at a small town AM radio station. Bill had been on the air only about 10 mintues when he realized that broadcasting was what he wanted to do for rest of his life. His radio career now spans more than 4 decades. He has been an award winning disc jockey, a radio station manager, and even owned a radio station. But Bill is quick to say that what he loves to do most is to entertain his listening audience. And, he does just that! Surrounded by a group of wacky characters (that seem to follow him around) Bill delivers side-splitting puns and punch lines every morning as he and co-host Richard Quillen get the Tri-Cities folks up and off to work. The WXBQ listeners seem to know just how much Bill enjoys his job. "We have so much fun," Bill says, "I think Richard and I would do the Morning Air Show for nothing! But, please don't tell the head management wienie I said that!" Bill's wife, Thelma, is a gifted artist and is an art instructor at John S. Battle High School. Bill is the proud father of a son who lives in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. For much of his life Bill has been very active in his church and community. He served for eight years as a certified Lay Minister of the West Texas-New Mexico Conference of the United Methodist Church. He was a member and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Appalachian Regional Hospital System. And, he has been active in many other civic organizations and community programs. These days, he devotes his free time to helping young people. He tutors high school students in preparation for their SAT and ACT tests...expecially those needing help with reading and writing. Bill's favorite sport is baseball, and he likes to attend high school sporting events. Bill says, "On the high school level, sports isn't adulterated by money. It's played by young people whose motivation is their love of the game. It's athletics in its purest form. It's fun because you never know what's going to happen." And, that's the way it is with Bill and the Morning Air Show. His motivation is his love of entertaining, and it's fun because you really never know what's going to happen! Email Bill |
